The Procession of the Species began as a celebration of the 25th anniversary of Earth Day (read more about the event). Since then, the community of Olympia, WA has come together each year to celebrate Earth Day and the important cultural connection between communities and the natural world through art, music, and dance. Cascadia Research staff have been participating in this event for many years, contributing our own ocean and marine mammal themed art to the celebration.
