Cascadia Research conducted its first surveys for North Pacific humpback whales in Nicaragua in 2004. There, we found plenty of whales, and a unique locale from which to base our operations in a new marina on the northwest coast of the country. In 2006 we sponsored our first participatory research trip to Nicaragua, in which people joined us in our work to learn about research techniques and experience whales in this quiet, beautiful part of the world. These trips have become a popular aspect of our work, enjoyed by researchers and participants alike, and we have conducted one or two trips each year since.

If you are interested in joining us on a future trip, please contact 2009 trip leader Erin Falcone (efalcone@cascadiaresearch.org), as future trips may be scheduled in response to sufficient interest.  Trips are usually conducted in February, but January and March are productive months as well.
